Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

Poorly built Jeep. Had to bring to dealer over 12 times in past 3 years for numerous problems or recalls. Major problems with rear differential.

  • Fit and Finish - 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

They are not breaking any stereotypes about American cars with this Jeep. I really wanted to buy American and it seemed at first that Jeep gave you so many more options for the money compared to other brands. But the number of items big and small to break down in the first months of ownership is remarkable. From the ignition to the door on the thing that holds you sun glasses, almost nothing is too sacred for a trip of two to the shop. At the shop these problems are so common I hardly get a surprised look. I read in their propaganda that they are taking a hard look at improving the fit and finish. That would be a good start. We do drive ours off-road, and it is a lot of fun.

  • What an SUV should be.... A Jeep - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

From city streets to mountain trails we have had no problems with our 99 Grand Cherokee Laredo. Our family has enjoyed the extra elbow room as well as the reliablility.

  • Would I buy another Jeep - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This is the second jeep I have leased over the lasy 5 years, would I lease another? No On both my 97 and 99 I have had to replace tires with less then 25000 miles on them. Both have had problems electrically and transmission problems. Both had batteries replaced after two years under warranty. 99 had fuel pump problems,a/c does not get cold enought in the FL sun.

  • Jeep Class - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I use to go through about one vehicle a year until I bought a used 1996 Grand Cherokee. I was so impressed with it, that within a year I bought my present 2000 model. The Jeep is perfect for my use. For a SUV, I consider its 23-24 mpg on the highway a decent performance. Although not a hot rod, it has all the power needed for 99% of the time. Other than the having the drivers power window unit replaced once, it has given me trouble free operation.

  • Love My Limited - 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I bought my 2011 Grand Cherokee Limited a few weeks ago. The dealer experience was great! They did not have the color i wanted but had it transferred from another dealer that day. I have to say i had never thought of a Jeep before but when i saw the new design and then test drove it. I was sold! It is much bigger than previous models, but i love the ride, the handling and the look of the overall cabin. I have always driven luxury cars and have to say that it compares in quality and comfort to those of BMW, Lexus and Audis.

  • Poor Transmission on 3.0 liter CRD - 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

We purchased our 3.0 liter Turbo Diesel CRD 10 months a go. The vehicle is right hand drive and purchased brand new in New Zealand. We returned the car after 5000 Km for the following- whining noise coming from rear Differential, this has since been repaired and just recently been replaced with a new diff that I believe has come from a Russian second world war truck, as it certainly sounds like one, in other words no solution. This has been exasperated by a poor transmission, poor shifting quality - delays in up shift, and a clunking jerky down shift from second to first in slow stopping conditions, we have a new transmission on the way out from the States, poor plastics and seats.

  • NO MORE MOPAR! - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

This is the 2nd Jeep vehicle I had purchased and the last! The first had a defect in the head from the manufacturer and this one had a a constant vibration coming from the transmission. No help from Chrysler for either. NO MORE MOPAR!

  • 2004 GC Laredo (4.0L I6) - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Previously owned a 96 Laredo 4x4 (purchased in 2000) and loved it. Perhaps the most reliable vehicle I ever owned. 240,000 miles with only minor maintenance and still eating up miles (my son has it now). I bought the 2004 Laredo twelve years later to replace it, I had to have the indestructable I6 engine! Very pleased with it so far. It rides more comfortably than my old Jeep and looks sharper (Silver with black trim and a dark grey interior). If it holds up as well as my previous Jeep Laredo I will be most pleased. Maintenance is just a fact of life in all vehicles, regardless of make /model. If youre fortunate (like I was), it all minor maintenance and wearable parts.

  • 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee - 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Bought a used 96 JGC from a Tucson Chevy dealer in 99. 22000 miles. Fully optioned. Perfect except all inner door panels were warped from the heat. I had seen this problem on two other used GCs. Dealer replaced them and no recurrence of this problem. Bought warranty for $1500,used up the entire value on repairs, including the rebuilding of the rear diff and CV joints. Used primarily for long distance driving. Tow a 5300lb boat with equalizer hitch. Tows well, goes up hills slowly. Now has 105000 miles, never a breakdown. If not driven, battery drains down in 10 days, no obvious cause. Tows well behind my RV. 14-18 mpg. Tire takes up cargo space. Its comfortable and I like it.
